Rugby! Rugby! Rugby!
Wellington stadium just hosted the 7's rugby. Did you know that the field that they play on is 100 meters long and each end is 50 meters long? The Wellington Stadium can hold 40,000 people! When they play sevens rugby there are seven players on each team, that makes 14 players playing at once.
I wonder how many pizza boxes we would need if we wanted to cover the entire field? Well, if a pizza box was square and measured 25cm wide by 25cm long then you would need 16 to cover one square meter. A rugby field is 5,000 meters square so five thousand times 16 is 80,000. That's 80,000 pizzas to cover the whole ground!

Wee ones: What shape is the football field itself (the grassy part in the white lines)? Can you find any other shapes?
Little kids: If you lay out 16 pizza boxes to make a square meter, then eat 3 of those pizzas yourself, how many pizzas are left? Bonus: If pizza boxes are 3 cm thick, how many do you have to stack to get over 10cm? (Hint if needed: skip counting in threes)
Big kids: How many 5cm tall pizza boxes would stack to be as tall as you? Find your height in cm! Bonus: If each one is cut into 10 slices, how many slices does that give you?
The sky’s the limit: If every seat was full at the Wellington stadium and every person wanted to eat a bit of pizza how many pizzas would you need to order if there were 8 slices per pizza.

Wee ones: A rectangle.
Little kids: 13 Bonus: 4
Big kids: Different for everyone. Bonus: Different for everyone.
The sky’s the limit: 40,000 divided by 8. Dividing by eight is like halving three times. So 20,000, 10,000, 5000. Or 8x5=40 so 8x5000=40,000.
